Robin Waters

Robin Waters is an associate at Loeb & Loeb, where she focuses on representing individuals and companies in government investigations and complex criminal cases in both state and federal court. She has defended challenging federal criminal investigations and prosecutions, including public corruption and fraud cases. Prior to joining Loeb & Loeb, Robin worked at a boutique federal criminal firm which specialized in national security-related cases. In those matters, she litigated complex national security and surveillance issues under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and the Classified Information Procedures Act.

Robin has dedicated a significant portion of her practice to pro bono representation of indigent or unpopular individuals. She represented a Guantanamo Bay detainee; defended several denaturalization cases; filed First Amendment challenges to the arrests of protestors; represented indigent defendants charged in federal court; and sued the Trump Administration on behalf of a Syrian physician stranded abroad by the travel ban, securing his return to the United States.

Robin received her law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. During law school, she clerked at a civil rights law firm, served as an extern at the Federal Defender Program where she assisted in the representation of indigent defendants, and worked with individuals exonerated from serious crimes at Loyola’s Life After Innocence Clinic.

Robin graduated summa cum laude from Northern Illinois University in 2011, where she received her B.A. in Political Science. During her time at NIU, Robin was active in the Political Science Department, especially with the Political Science Student Advisory Committee, Model United Nations and PreLaw Society. She also studied abroad in Malaysia. Robin received a federal Foreign language and Area Studies Fellowship for the study of Indonesian language, and received an Outstanding Female Student Award.

Robin has enjoyed staying connected with NIU. She has been a mentor in the Mentorship Program, and has served as a volunteer judge for NIU’s Mock Trial Team competition.
