Study Abroad

No matter what students' majors are, there is a study abroad program that can enrich their lives with engaged learning opportunities overseas. These programs can last anywhere from 10 days to a full academic year, and range from general studies courses, to highly focused graduate seminar courses. Study abroad programs are excellent for students who are interested in:

  • seeing the world
  • exploring their area of study in another country
  • engaging and communicating with individuals in another country
  • learning another language
  • expanding their world view
  • enhancing the value of their degree through international correspondence
  • working with professors and instructors in other countries

NIU hosts a Study Abroad Fair annually and offers financial aid resources for students. A number of CLAS departments have scholarships for study abroad, so CLAS majors should also check with their departments regarding funding resources. Faculty and staff may request individuals to come to class to give a study abroad presentation by filling out the Study Abroad Office's Presentation Form.
